Reflective material is always divided to squares (the material is on rolls); the square measure is approx. 225*225mm – this way the reflectivity quality is stable. Sometimes this square edge line could get on the product you buy but don't worry; this doesn't mean that the product is cull.
With slap wrap or other long products its even negative if the product doesn't have one or two of these lines on the product; in that case it doesn't apply to CE EN13356:2001

There are only few number of reflective material producers in the world ( they are located in US actually - nowhere else ) who can provide premium quality certified material which can be used for making certified pedestrian reflectors. Even Chinese admit that they don't have any material producer who could offer stabile good quality reflective material and there is a good reason why; to fulfill the requirements, the back side of the material must have millions of small prisms pressed to the film - thousands of prisms into 1cm2! Also these prisms must be very accurate and even in order to mirror the light back to its source. It takes enormous effort to reproduce so tiny prisms in the density mentioned above. Bad thing for the shopper is that it is impossible to estimate material quality by human eye. Therefore companies who are able to make that kind of material are using certain marking to separate their product - reflective material without any marking is counterfeit ( this applies for EN13356:2001 products - for road safety it can be different ).
3M for instance has 3 little triangles in its material - the triangles make a pattern as they are placed about 1,5 cm distance from the next 3 triangles. We use 3M Scotchlite material and this logo is always on our product's packing - also the little triangles on our products :)

There are lots of requirements for the producer to fulfill to get the EN13356:2001 certificate (only producers can get the certificate, not distributors). The first thing on the certificate is the allowed minimum and maximum size for the product. Note that this is very important issue as the reflective materials have different quality so producers get different requirements for the product size. The total minimum reflectivity for the certified product is 15cm2, maximum 50cm2. There are only 2 material producers in the world who have such a good quality that they get so small minimum, these producers are 3M Scotchlite and Reflexite . Other material producers have higher minimum which can be even 26cm2 (almost twice as big as for 15cm2).

Try to avoid reflectors (or other personal safety items) which have ON print if you don't know the producer very well. On print takes the reflectivity off and you can never be sure if you are also reflecting when walking in the dark.
Sometimes product can have ON print but then it should be made by trusted manufacturer. Usually the reflector should be bigger size then.

Always check the top layer of the safety product because only white (silver) or fluorescent/lime yellow materials can be certified, highly reflective materials! There might be some cases when from the distance, the certified reflective products look some other colour but when taking the closer look, you should notice that actually the top material is white or yellow. This means the colourful printing is inside the product and this way the reflection doesn't suffer.

If the item looks like a reflector but it's named differently (reflective accessory, reflective toy etc.) you must note that these items don't have such a names for nothing - it means that these items don't give you 100% correct protection in the dark. They reflect, You can use them but as an addition a real certified product.

*First of all, the correct personal safety item (reflector, slap wrap, reflective sticker etc.) should be always packed into a bag which has CE marking, producer info and the EN13356:2001 printed on it. Unfortunately this doesn't always guarantee that the product is correct and certified - there are still lots of counterfeiters ( mainly from China ) who mark their products with these markings but the products still don't comply to European Union standards or laws. If you want to be 100% sure the product you are wearing is certified, contact your local Governmental Road Service, they should have all needed knowledge to recognize the "real deal" or even have a black list for the companies who produce counterfeit.

All products on this site are made in Europe, Estonia.

This number combination puts together European Directive which subsumes all the non-professional safety items. This number is given out with certificate and only to reflective product producers if their products are produced accordingly to the law. Only professional laboratories have the right to give out this kind of certificates.
For the producer it means that the producer has to make certain shape and measured samples, send them to the laboratory where those samples are tested. The testing includes brushing, sinking, scratching, reflectivity test in cd/lux (reflectivity measure), soaking, washing at different temperatures etc. IF all those requirements are filled, the certificate is given out. As a client, if you have a doubt in your heart that the reflective product you have bought is not certified or doesn't comply with the certificate which producer has presented, you can always ask the distributor or producer to show you the certificate. Read it through very carefully and if something doesn't look right or logical, turn to Governmental Road Service or to Consumer Protection Agency.

Yes, all product categories which display info about certification ARE EN13356 certified.
